The University of Aberdeen, a member of the SCCS partnership, is renowned for expertise in petroleum geoscience, notably in reservoir characterisation and structural modelling. It has specific expertise in the interpretation of seismic data and the creation of structural models, and has strong industry links.
The School of Geosciences has a dedicated industry-sponsored seismic interpretation laboratory with access to commercial interpretation software. Expertise in the geological storage of CO2 has been developed through work on projects, including the seismic characterisation and assessment of the CO2 plume at Sleipner and structural and fracture modelling for the InSalah CO2 storage site.
Within the ACT Acorn project, the university will apply its skills to work packages focusing on storage development plan design and the challenge of ensuring storage readiness for the chosen CO2 storage sites in the North Sea.
